How is elearning health getting better through augmented reality?

Over time, medical practitioners are facing many challenges in the workplace. It’s because they have to upgrade themselves with the dynamic compliance laws. But elearning health ensures that such professionals are taught through an efficient and effective method.

Elearning health is needed where surgical students pursue surgical education through remotely located specialists and perform better surgeries in the future.

Telehealth is useful in this case because sometimes, the students don’t have colleges available where they live however elearning health systems provide sufficient training to them.

Through AR-based smartphones with OS including AR 7.0 or iOS 11 or higher available at the student’s place, their live feed using surgical tools is transmitted to the specialists who then analyze it. When the students have completed surgeries on dummies, they can get a score from the specialist and a demo of how to use the tools properly. The AR-enabled devices can capture images from 0 to 65 meters.

Elearning health is useful for live surgeries where the doctors can see a 3D monitor showing a specialist how to use a tool on synthetic skin.

Elearning health aids in the remote inspection of surgeries and patients through AR:

The surgery in remote areas is successful even when a doctor can’t visit such a place in person. These devices are highly useful in the patient’s case because the doctors can infer data from the patient’s biometrics sent through AR glasses worn by the operating doctor. Moreover, By wearing AR glasses while examining the live video feed of patients, the doctors can watch the relevant medical record stored in the patient’s electronic health records.

Useful in emergency conditions:

This technology is highly useful for immediate post-operative care needed by an accident victim. The doctors can get all the information about the victim through his AR-based Smartphone’s camera, like his vitals, previous health records and location. The AR app on his smartphone measures all his vitals and scans his medical records for any medical stats. The doctors can watch these stats on their stand-alone AR headset or an AR app on a smartphone, or on a PC  with an AR headset.

The AR technology works on the software installed on the AR device, which can be a Smartphone or a tablet with an AR app, stand-alone AR glasses(don’t require a PC to watch the AR stream), with an AR headset on a PC

The viewer can watch such a stream on any of the devices mentioned above.

Remember, the movie Terminator, where the Cyborg can measure and see the vitals of any human being through his augmented reality vision. Not only that, he can also get his vitals stored in any medical records. The cyborg has standalone AR glasses installed instead of robotic eyes.

The EMS(Emergency Medical Service) team, which might take time to arrive at the accident scene, can ask someone to help the patient because this team has his vitals, like his blood pressure and can see his injuries in depth through the 3D-based incoming video stream on smartphone etc.

Necessitated due to pandemic:

The need for elearning health has been imposed due to the remote consultation sought by the patients due to the pandemic. The patients have been getting themselves checked through telemedicine. In fact, during AR-based virtual calls, a doctor can inspect a patient for any presence of conditions through physical screening. Through AR, the doctors can ask a patient to take his medicine once his vitals show increased blood glucose levels or blood pressure.

Elearning health helps in telemedicine for chronic conditions:

Patients need doctors to resolve their queries virtually. There are also chronic diseases that have no cure except for the patient to take his pills regularly so that his condition doesn’t get adverse. This is possible in the case of an affliction like Alzheimer’s, where the patient can forget to take his medicine. But smart pill dispensers ensure that the patient can take his medicine at the right time without anyone reminding him. An email or a text message alert is triggered to the doctor in case a patient has not taken his medicine. Also, if the patient consumes his dosage, the dispenser locks itself, preventing the patient from consuming the medicine any further.

An inbuilt alarm in such a dispenser rings at the patient’s time of taking his dose.

The telemedicine approach includes appointments between the patients and the doctors via a video conferencing tool. Since the doctor can see the patient in the video calls, he can assess his environment to know whether anything specific is causing the allergy.

Telemedicine is also useful for mental health patients because the caretakers and other family members can attend their calls. Such calls are useful for such patients because sometimes they cannot leave their homes and travel to the doctor’s clinic for a visit. They are also useful when a doctor is out of town due to any reason. Some patients have low immunity due to their age or conditions like pregnancy, and it’s not feasible for them to come for a clinic visit as their health condition can get compromised. But a virtual call with a doctor saves them the danger of getting infected.

Telemedicine is also useful in the case of pediatric counseling for children when their parents don’t have time to take them to a doctor due to their chock-a-block office schedules. But with such professional services, they can attend their child’s meeting with the doctor through a video conferencing-based call.

Pharma elearning

How can pharma elearning help drug manufacturing companies?

Pharma e-learning is crucial these days when so many drugs get invented and approved every year.

The companies in this industry, make sure that the employees work efficiently so that they give their best performance. This way, the employees can get the best job aids for their work.

The basic challenge in the pharma industry is the continuous introduction of new drugs. The companies need to provide information about such new drugs to employees. The workforce must be trained to ensure that they can use such drugs. Although every sales personnel hired by these companies gets training about 1-3 months before the fieldwork, every time, this personnel can’t be gathered to get training about a new drug. That’s why a pharma LMS can be used to disburse all the information.

Some of the advantages for the pharma e-learning industry include:

Avoidance of medication errors: The drugs have to be administered in the right doses.

The FDA has given a proper definition of this kind of error known as a medication error. This kind of error can cause harm to a patient. According to the definition, the error in the consumption of the drug can happen when the doctor is preparing the prescription for it and enters the wrong dose amount.

Even when the patient is seeking telemedicine and the doctors type the wrong dosage amount on the PC. In case, the drug is being given to a patient, he can be provided with the wrong amount by the medical practitioner.

FDA has prescribed several rules for the consumption of these drugs which can prevent deaths and other kinds of harm caused due to an inappropriate dose. These harms include the victim suffering from a life-threatening condition or hospitalization as aftermath. Other serious consequences can also occur, such as when the drug is administered to a pregnant woman, it causes a defect in the unborn child.

So, the medical practitioners have to be provided with the right pharma elearning to prevent such costly mistakes from happening, which can harm the reputation of the drug manufacturer. The staff has to be elucidated on the FDA prevention measures for such errors which are:

  • Proper labels: There should be proper container labels on the drug so that it’s not confused with any other variant. Apart from that, there should be different labels for the drug components in different quantities. It’s because the patient may consume the wrong drug variant based on no quantity being mentioned on the label.
  • How should doctors prescribe the drug: The drug manufacturer should also ensure that the doctors have all the information about whom to prescribe the drug and the proper instructions to consume, i.e. Whether it should be taken before and after meals.

How much should be the time gap between different doses of the drug in a day. This information should be included in the imprint codes of the tablet.

This is important because otherwise the patient can get confused between tablets that have the same color, size, and shape. This kind of imprint code can include the manufacturer’s logo or the National Drug Code(10 digits in number). The strength of the drug included in the form of a number like 0.5mg of a substance contained in the drug is also preferred as an imprint instead of the manufacturer’s logo.

For example, a drug imprint can be in the form of M367. The letter M stands for the manufacturer’s name such as Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals.

The digits 0367, refer to the 4-digit code used to represent the drug manufacturer or the labeler. There are 3 other digits following these 4 digits used in the National Drug Code, which include the form of the drug whether its tablet, capsules, or liquid, and the strength of the drug i.e. quantity of substances. The last 2 digits included after the drug form represent how many tablets are present in a bottle of the medicine.

FDA has mandated that all oral drugs(whether OTC or prescription) should include this information. All this information has to be taught to the workers, especially the sales personnel of a drug manufacturer through pharma e-learning. Even such elearning can be arranged for doctors.

  • Bar code printed on drug bottles and stripes: FDA has also prescribed other rules so that there is no confusion in the consumption of drugs. These rules apply to drug manufacturers. As per these rules, there should be barcodes printed on the drug bottles so that healthcare professionals can check them before prescribing them to their new patients.

Such scanning of bar codes before prescriptions is important because new drugs with new substances are getting released into the market every day and the doctors might not know them. This bar code also contains information about the right dosage and the right way for the drug to enter the patient’s body, whether it’s through the nasal route or the mouth. Pharma e-learning makes drug manufacturers aware of such new rules.

  • Right packaging: The drug manufacturers, especially those who manufacture topical creams also have to know the new rules released by FDA relate to product packaging.

As per these new rules, the cream should be packaged in such a way, that the consumer does not confused about whether to put the cream in the eye or the ear or apply it on the skin.

If the cream is packaged in a bottle similar to that used for eyedrops the consumer can put it in the eye leading to severe implications. Again, pharma elearning can prevent such errors.

Similarly, if a drug has to be consumed orally, oral syringes are given for this purpose. If a liquid oral dosage accompanies this syringe, the markings on both should be in the same measurement standards as millimeters. With different measurement standards, like millimeters on the syringe and milliliters on liquid dosage, confusion can be caused for the consumers.

Again, sales personnel can solve this confusion by guiding the patient or drug companies should make sure that the measurement standards are the same. This is how pharma e-learning can save drug manufacturing companies from penalties.

These penalties can be imposed when the patient suffers from an injury or a life-debilitating change after a medication error. So, if it is the fault of the drug manufacturing corporation, which does not conclude with the death of the victim, it can result in a penalty of $200,000.

virtual training

How to deliver virtual training for effective results?

Elearning has become the most urgent need for companies these days. Companies are promoting high-end employee development through it.

LMS portal is now implemented by every company. They need to share the content on it to promote it throughout the organization.

Companies can use the services of subject matter experts for training employees through webinars arranged through video conferencing tools of an LMS. But, they do not know teaching skills. That’s where it becomes a problem because they might not know how to connect with an audience. Virtual training is an unexplored domain for subject matter experts.

Professional trainers on the other hand can deal with the fundamentals of VILT training. They know how to read the body language of the target audience and all. That’s why companies should look forward to imparting training through professional instructors even if it is virtual.

Hiring professional virtual training experts through managed learning partners means that you don’t put the entire pressure on the learning and development teams of your company.

It is because such partners also provide eLearning creation, so your internal resources are freed. The companies have varied training needs. First, virtual training is delivered in a department in a single branch only. Then, it’s extended to cover different branches also and gets a nationwide reach wherever the company has its presence.

So, whenever the needs for training are high, the organizations can ask the managed learning partners to provide them with more resources without hiring anyone themselves. Hiring trainers through a managed learning partner means that you can get them to travel anywhere which internal trainers might not be willing to do.

The trainers hired through managed learning partners have been chosen through careful screening. So, they know their job well.

Train the SMEs

Also, subject matter experts might not have much idea about how to use a virtual training tool like Zoom, etc. For this reason, also, the companies can get help from the managed learning partners. They can provide training assistance to the subject matter experts so that they yield better results.

Help with onboarding

You can easily manage onboarding through such managed learning partners. Onboarding is a critical process for a company that requires huge work. The employees must have the best experience during onboarding because they will remember this during their tenure in the company. The managed learning partners have an organized process for onboarding. This reduces the burden of the internal teams.

The business can ensure that they can have more resilience when they outsource training. The business can get rid of any kind of training gaps the employees have because new technology gets tough to learn for them.

There is also the consideration of employees. The employees who want professional development can indeed be helped; everybody is not interested in skill enhancement. The business should motivate such employees for skill development to reach the top and also get the maximum return from its managed learning partner.

The managed learning services partner should also be informed of the way employees like to learn and at what pace. When such a provider learns about your company values they can deliver a better outcome.

These points can be kept in mind while hiring a managed learning partner:

What your employees want: So, if your employees can want eLearning platforms where the content is uploaded for them. They can also desire a blended learning approach where some virtual training is there and the rest of the content is through eLearning where they study on their own. This is how companies can ask the managed learning partner to provide them with a customized solution.

The company culture: It’s also important to check the content of the managed learning partner because it is quite crucial. The managed earning partner should know the culture of the client to know how the content is to be written because the employees can ask for formal and informal language.

elearning health

How elearning is of use in the healthcare sector?

Elearning is now getting used extensively across the globe, especially in the corporate sector.

MNCs are using this form of learning to impart training to their employees.

The employees also consider health elearning as a time-saving form of training because they don’t need to attend seminars for it.

Elearning health has a high retention rate because human beings can remember what is shown to them via videos. Therefore, various sectors are now willing to adopt elearning to help in their development as well as leading a nation to develop. These sectors are agriculture, services, education, medicine, government organizations and businesses.

Now elearning health is popular because of the following reasons:

Not possible to attend classes: Healthcare professionals don’t get the education sometimes because they work for the entire day. So, they don’t have time to be a part of the classes. Healthcare professionals also have erratic schedules.

But with elearning health, they don’t need to take out special time.

They can study whenever they are convenient to do so, be in the office or in the metro. The accessibility of elearning is also great because it can be seen and used on all devices. You can also print the elearning material if you don’t want to study it on a tablet or a smartphone.

  • Elearning can be interactive: Some critics have this opinion about elearning that it is not so effective because there is no scope for the human element. In a class, students discuss what has been taught in a lecture. This leads to higher retention.

Students can also ask questions about the subject matter from a teacher after the session ends. So, a classroom session is quite productive. But it’s not so in elearning. However, a report was prepared by the World Health Organization which found that elearning in healthcare is as efficient in teaching as in a classroom setting. It’s because elearning has a lot of nice features such as worksheets, videos, text, and audio. The audio might be in the form of a narration or a character talking. So, elearning health also makes someone learn as much as a conventional classroom teaching model.

  • Loss of productivity: Healthcare professionals must not devote time away from the hospital. Caring for patients is extremely important. With elearning, healthcare professionals don’t need to devote much time to training. They can take out time whenever they want from their schedule to view elearning content.
  • A valuable database is created: Since elearning is in the form of videos or text, it’s quite useful for a healthcare professional when they are unable to recall something. They can go back to the elearning modules and look back at the same information. This is not possible with classroom training unless a lecture is recorded by a student.

Elearning systems also have search engines through which users can search for information. So the elearning systems have a method of letting the users know that they have gone through a topic. Hence, anyways users have complete control over what they have learned.

  • Elearning systems give news:Elearning systems also give news about the faculty on message boards. So, the users can post their views about such news.

This is how elearning systems can benefit healthcare professionals.

He was a German psychologist who is known for discovering the forgetting curve. According to this curve, the biggest decline in memory happens within 20 minutes, and then 1 hour.
