How has elearning made learning more interesting for students?

Due to Covid-9 distance learning has become popular. It’s possible that schools might not open till the end of 2021. Edtech(educational technology) is all about changing the conventional teaching through books to a digital format. Teaching has become more effective through Edtech.

Elearning is quite helpful for students. Students don’t have to face the monotony of listening to a lecture. Students can also discuss their problems with their friends by joining an online group. Teachers can also get online to solve the queries of students. Since the students have to communicate with teachers and other students, their communication skills have been strengthened. The students are benefiting from the use of technology in education known as EdTech(Educational Technology).

Educational technology is beneficial to teachers as well. They don’t have to attend the class at certain times. The same applies to students as well. They can attend the class whenever they like. It’s true in asynchronous learning. The students since they attend the classes in their spare time have better retention rates. They can make sure that they can apply knowledge to real-life events. Also, digital education is designed in a better way. It’s focused on what students have to learn, i.e. their learning objectives.

Elearning now involves teaching students through slides.

The elearning content can be designed for a better experience for the learners. There are drag and drop interactions for the learner. These are quite useful. The learners also enjoy them. There are also branching scenarios in elearning which ensure that the learners get to choose different options in situations.
Elearning is not just for students, its for corporate employees as well. They can benefit from elearning also when necessary skills are taught to them. The best advantage of elearning is that learners can learn whenever they want. Classroom-based education can seem monotonous and dreary to them.

Elearning courses have many options for students. They include character and text animations. There are also webinars. There can also be whiteboard animation included for the ease of learners and to make them learn entertainingly.

Various developments in Technology

The students can benefit through the LMS based systems like the Instructure Canvas. It provides a dashboard to the students in which they can see the courses. They can see all the courses they have to study. Each course file uploaded on Canvas includes various activities such as announcements, assignments, and discussions. The teachers can upload assignments on this LMS and students can complete them. Each canvas student account has login credentials. You can also see new recent activities on the dashboard. These activities include assignments and announcements etc.

Google Canvas helps the students learn through screens. The teacher shares the screen with the students, draws on it and they can see it. This LMS works with the Chrome browser. Canvas is like a digital whiteboard which you can share with students while teaching them. Google Meet can be used with canvas to share the screen with students. You can also upload the Canvas document on Google Docs and share it with students.

So, you can share the Canvas document with students.

Google Jamboard is an interactive tool which has options present for student writing on the whiteboard at the same time as you. You can share a Jamboard document just like you share a GoogleDoc for the students to edit the documents. So, this is how elearning has made learning more interesting for students.

How to choose correct accent for your elearning voiceover?

The voice-overs are an important part of the elearning module.

It’s because the accent makes an important impact on the audience. Their hearing and understanding ability depends on the accent.

Accent of Received Pronunciation

It is a good accent. This accent is suitable once the audience is from different countries. You can use this accent if the audience is from countries where the second language is English. It’s an articulate accent for such an audience. This has been the standard accent for many kinds of audience, but many other accents are also present.

Accent of regional English

This kind of accent pertains to the area to which the audience belongs. If the audience is from Britain, it’s better to have an accent of their place. The local accent is also important. The accent has to be different for northern Britain and the south UK. In general, the accents are different for southern and south-eastern UK than the northern UK. In a vast demographic such as that of UK, it’s not always better to have British accents, but a slight touch of such accents for the more remote areas.

Native accents

Elearning is best suited when the learner can identify with the accent. Sometimes, when the audience is from a country where English is the second language, it’s better to have a native accent. For example, if the audience is from a Spanish speaking country, then the speaker must be a native Spaniard. But sometimes, the teacher with such an accent can also have an adverse effect. The audience might think that if the teacher could not learn how to have an English accent, how would they be able to learn it.

Such native accents are important for language courses where English is taught. It’s better to have native speakers for elearning courses for those with English as a second language even if the courses are not about language training.

With a native accent, the learning rates are high. Its because the course might be directed towards the working class consisting of plumbers and they might not know much English. So, for them, it’s better to have a native accent than the received pronunciation accent.

Different accents

Dialogue in multiple accents is also effective. It can make sure that the different kind of audience can relate to such accents. Also, different kind of characters can be shown with different accents. With different accents, you can make sure that the audience gets a hang of the real world. Indeed, we often come across different accents in our everyday lives. Having different kinds of accents also makes sure that the audiences’ moods are changed throughout the course.

You can get a test run conducted to find your perfect accent. You can see the audience reaction’s to different kinds of voices to know which is best for their needs. You can get voice artists with different accent skills who can record voices in different accents.

This is how you can decide about the accent of the voiceover in your elearning module.

How has Covid-19 changed things globally?

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed a lot of things. It’s true that many companies are finding it tough to train employees in the times of this pandemic. If desktop-based software is used to work on elearning, it’s not so easy to share it with other employees. With authoring tools that are not on the cloud, .mp4 files have to be shared with other employees, all over the world.

Therefore, a cloud-based elearning tool is the best option, when everyone can see the course file on the cloud.

Access on any system

This pandemic has made many organizations test the waters. The learning and development teams of organizations that were using old technology have to do remote work. But L&D teams which have been using cloud-based elearning tools had a smoother ride. They didn’t have to make sure to allow remote access to their projects through a VPN(Virtual Private Network).

All the companies which were hosting documents and elearning tools on the cloud had a lot of advantage in this regard. Apart from elearning courses, hosting documents on cloud had an advantage because they could be easily shared with other team members. The authors of such documents didn’t waste time sending those files to a remote computer so that they could be accessed by another person. Instead, they could be accessed easily by this remote person because they were on a cloud.

When all the countries moved into a phase of lockdown, it meant that they worked more easily. They could log onto the cloud through the browser and access the file. This was also true for the elearning tool because it was hosted on the cloud and accessed from there easily too. Using this cloud-based tool has also meant safety of the documents, elearning tools and course files.

There were some problems which were faced while working from home. The employees of a company had to work with kids which are prone to spilling liquids on things. So, even if a laptop was somehow covered with a liquid, it didn’t mean any harm for the course file and the elearning software. The organizations which are now on cloud don’t have to be perturbed after what will happen after the pandemic. It’s because after the pandemic such businesses won’t stop using the cloud-based authoring tools and documents.

A cloud-based tool for all kinds of creators

There are cloud-based elearning tools that can be easily used by anybody. They can be used easily by programmers, graphic designers and for new beginners. These tools also make sure that the feedback can be given easily by Subject matter Experts. So, all the employees who need to work on the authoring tool when it is cloud-based.

Cloud-based authoring tools can offer various advantages to the users:

  • Various kinds of user interfaces that can be used easily by those who have different kinds of jobs with the cloud-based elearning tool
  • A cloud-based elearning tool allows easy set up of user roles so that access privileges are limited. These roles can be limited to admins, IDs, developers and SME’s who review the course.
  • Widgets are given to the developers in the elearning tool. These widgets can be drag and drop so that novices can easily create custom programming without writing any code.
  • Such elearning software has advanced support so that users can enhance their skills on the tool. There are so many videos available on the internet to use such tools.
  • The ability to create software simulations that can be easily seen on tablets, mobile phones and PCs. This way, the entire gamut of the audience can be covered with such tools.

But all these cloud-based authoring tools don’t provide the same level of features, so the elearning companies should look for various features when they are searching for such a tool.

Why is elearning going to prosper in the future?

Technology has changed a lot of things and this has happened to education also.

Due to elearning, education has changed drastically now.

Elearning has been easy for both teachers and students. In the future, elearning will continue to be a part of education. So, with elearning, education will become easier for students. The students will also benefit from online education becoming more engaging due to the adoption of new methods by trainers. Apart from schools, companies are also using elearning methods to teach their employees. So, the future of elearning is quite bright.

Continuous education

The education sector is facing the possibility of continuous education. This implies that the learners can grasp new skill sets in an environment which is changing rapidly. Therefore it is the process of getting new skills so that people can do new jobs. So, it’s about educating the employees regularly. The employees have to rapidly educate themselves considering the work environment of today. Employees have to respond to alterations in the work environment regularly. Hence, elearning will make sure employees get continuous education.

Hence elearning companies provide useful content in this regard. Elearning will make sure that employees can get professional as well as personal growth. It’s true that with increased knowledge of employees, they can do more to the organisations. They can easily cope up with their job needs due to elearning.

Personal learning routes

A learning route is a learner-focused approach that makes sure that he imbibes the concept in a learner-friendly method. So, the entire idea behind this concept is to find methods useful for learners. When the course is online especially asynchronous learning, learners can advance at their speed. They can determine their own goals for learning. So, the learners can attain their personal goals by informing the instructors.

The elearning has also expanded by making sure that there are many online activities in an elearning course. Some slides include images and instructions given through videos. All these things can win learners.

Social learners

Social learning is also very useful. It ensures that the learners learn by interacting with each other. Synchronous learning which includes live classrooms is also useful for learners. There will be interactions among learners about the topics they have learned. This boosts their confidence etc. Apart from social learning, more changes are happening in elearning, which is the best for learners.

On-demand learning

There is a feature of online learning which is quite useful. Anyone can become a learner by accessing the learning material from home. Professionals can also pursue learning at any time. Its because whenever they have time, they can access such learning and boost their professional skills. The online sessions can be held at any point in time. Companies can schedule instructors to make sure that the lessons are delivered to professionals.

The learners become more engaged with such learning because of its gamification. In these games, the learners can compete with each other to see who completes a course first.

These are the various benefits of elearning compelling learners to use it.

tools to be used by elearning companies

Which tools should be used by elearning companies?

Many organisations want to provide the best training solutions to their employees. Businesses have been dealing with remote teams this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, there was no training given by instructors in classrooms. The businesses had to focus on online training programs for this remote workforce.

Elearning companies have come to the aid of businesses for such remote training.

There are many kinds of elearning development tools but elearning companies have to focus on the right development tools as per the needs of their clients.

Cloud-based tools

Cloud-based tools are easy to access from anywhere. It’s easy to work on these tools from any location because they are cloud-based. Since so many team members can work on the course at the same point of time, it gets developed quickly. Although cloud-based tools are easy to work with, sometimes, they lack some special features offered by other tools. These tools can be used on any device, and don’t require special operating systems. For example, Vyond is one such tool. For example, you cant record simulations in Vyond.

Use of Powerpoint

It can also be used to develop custom elearning courses. You can content on to the slides such as quizzes and videos. Although PowerPoint does not have special features like character animation, it can be used to develop courses quite quickly. Since many professionals are aware of this tool, they can develop content quite easily with this tool.

Local elearning tools

There are many tools which can be downloaded on your PC and you can work on them. They have all the special features like character animation etc. However, it takes some time for someone to learn these tools. But since they are not cloud-based, multiple IDs can’t work on them at the same time. They are accessible by only a single ID at a single point of time.

Special tools

Many specialised tools are used for content development. Every organisation does require such kind of specialised tools. Some kind of training programs only requires one kind of content. Blended learning can be asynchronous and synchronous. In synchronous training, webinars are only there. However asynchronous tools can also make use of videos. Some such videos require tools like Flash that are appropriate for character-based animation of any kind. Then, the flash video is uploaded into the content created through Storyline.

This is how elearning companies can use tools to develop elearning modules.

How to change from offline to online learning?

Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic became reality employees have been working from home. By the time, this pandemic gets over, employees would be working for home for two years. Its because many companies plan to open their office in the latter half of 2021. Now, the companies have to check how the employees are performing in work from home. The companies have to help employees maintain their work-life balance.

Every company is focusing on having better elearning in the company. The companies are now moving away from instructor-led training. They are adapting virtual instructor-led training.

But elearning comes with its challenges which are as follows:

Importance of the design of learning: The design of the learning must not be ignored. The basis of training modules should be the audience and not the content. This is one of the most basic details of the elearning design. Only a good learning design can force the audiences to learn things properly.

Use technologies that you already have: Tools are readily available with you. There are many technologies that companies have. They can use such technologies to provide better learning solution to their clients. For example, there are platforms such as Teams and YouTube already available. They can be used to provide training to users. There is also software such as Camtasia which can allow you to create LMS based content. These tools must be used carefully by an organisation to succeed in the elearning domain.

Elearning gives a lot of freedom: Elearning makes sure that employees can learn at times when it’s convenient for them. The learners can make sure that they can reach out to the content anytime they like. Also, elearning can include many options such as video and gamification due to which such content is quite interesting for users.

More analytics: Elearning makes sure that you are can detect the user’s progress. You can take care of assessments and how the users are faring on them. You can also be sure to improve training methods if the learners are not able to perform as per expectations. You can track the effectiveness of your training methods by checking the performance of learners on assessments.

You have to move from traditional methods to virtual methods due to Covid-19. This will enable you to train those employees who are working from home. But it’s important to get the most output from such employees, so training them is essential.

What can an elearning system do for you

What can elearning systems do?How to design them correctly?

Today, elearning systems are an important part of any organisation.

They are used for training employees. Skill enhancement is important for any company. The businesses have changed their way of working. Now the focus is on having a global but trained workforce. These are the changes that have happened due to the elearning systems.

Courses available in multiple languages
Now the focus on is on training the workforce as per the local language. Therefore, elearning systems are built in different languages. The employees can be trained in their language leading to higher retention of what they have learnt. This also saves the cost of taking in many trainers and helps employees in learning what has to be imparted.

Reduction of costs
Training online is the best way to save costs. The employees don’t have to travel to a single location to get the training although they might be working from a different location. Apart from employees visiting a location, there are also the costs of accomodating employees. Through elearning, employees can save such costs, whenther it’s either asynchronous or synchronous.

No need to delay tasks
There are many jobs in a company which are sensitive to time. It means there is a fixed time for them. But with asynchronous elearning, employees can take the training whenever they are free. The elearning training materials are so flexible that employees can access them when they are about to make any kind of sales. They allow employees to learn at their rate without having to delay important tasks.
There is a high usage of this kind of training. In the US only, a large number of companies depend on eLearning for developing their employees. This is because this kind of training has a great business effect.

The following ways can make sure an elearning course is designed properly:

Research the content For elearning, there is no rule such that your content needs to be a certain way. Proper research needs to be done into the content before it is made available. The learners want proof of the content. There need to be sources in the content. With proof, you can say that the content contains the correct research.

Various learning styles
The elearning course should take various learning styles into account. It’s important that some learners like multimedia presentations, while others like the information in the form of text. So, SME’s can guide you on how the same information can be presented in different forms.

Enable contact
Since elearnpring courses are provided through learning management systems and hence provide chatting facilities, the teachers and students can talk to each other. However, the trainers can provide information about their availability to students, so that students can connect at the right time. There are discussion forums, chats, video conferencing as in synchronous elearning.

The LMS should be designed carefully
It’s very important to design the LMS carefully so that the learners are easily able to navigate through it. If students are not able to navigate through the LMS, they can just waste time figuring it out rather than learning something. Therefore, designing a user-intuitive LMS is important.

So, thats how companies can utilise the elearning systems for their benefits.

multilingual elearning

Benefits of providing elearning content in different languages

The elearning market will reach an amazing figure in the coming 5 years.

With multilingual elearning, you can make sure that our employees get the right kind of training. They don’t have to be adjusted for their limited skills. Due to lack of skills, sometimes employees might have to be moved between locations.
But training is a problem for organisations that have so many branches and need to provide training to all of them. Then the training material needs to be created in different languages.
There are various benefits of creating materials in different languages:

It’s not so easy to create content in another language. Creating content in another language is not about translating the content. There is also a need for understanding the content from a cultural perspective. So content in multiple languages is changing the content to suit the cultural needs of different speakers in the world.

The reason why content is created in multiple languages is to ensure that employees can modify their work behaviour so that they yield more results for the organisation. The company wants all its employees to attain good results, no matter what their branch is. Employees are more likely to understand what is passed to them if it is in their language.

Higher reach
Your organisation will pose a competition to others who are unable to provide training content to employees in different languages. The employees will be able to make a significant contribution to the company if the content is provided in their own language.
You can also make sure that your products are purchased in different countries by advertising in different languages.

Better learning engagement
Many people in the world would like to learn new things. With multilingual content, you are providing them with opportunities for the same. When you deliver content in different languages, it ensures that the learning engagement around the world is high. When your content is only in English, you get the audience interested only in English speaking countries. However, by having content in different languages, you can connect with audiences in different parts of the world. Sometimes, the content has to be delivered to the audience for making them more informed about the product. In that case, content needs to be in the language of the user.

Compliance
Sometimes, translation is also necessary as part of regulatory procedures. There are many places in the world where the translation is needed because of laws. For example, when your employees are working from a certain place, you have to create content in that language only.
The benefit of translation, in that case, is that you can reach out to your employees, and you are following laws of the place. For example, to connect with your audience in Wales, your elearning content has to exist in the Welsh language also for employees from Wales.

This is how preparing content in different languages is useful for you.

elearning in focus

Why elearning is getting so much focus?

There has been a lot of focus on elearning.

But there are many reasons why elearning is so much used. Let us discuss them all:
Elearning is Personalized
Personalisation is one of the main benefits of elearning. The corporate learners can’t have the same learning solution for all because they can’t meet expectations. So, for corporate learners to improve they need to have a personalized learning solution to be delivered to them. When the elearning courses are personalized for them, corporate learners can benefit from online training and specific course maps. Personalised elearning starts with measuring where learners lack and then provide them with specific courses for their shortcomings.

Smaller resources
Corporate learning and development have specific requirements. Its because the corporates don’t have much time on their hands. Therefore, elearning provides them with smaller resources they can easily browse through. With such short duration resources, corporates easily get all the knowledge and can solve their problems. This also helps companies in improving their return on investment. So, elearning is a win-win solution for companies and their employees.

LMS analytics

An LMS solution must have the proper analytics tools so that the weaknesses and strengths of a learner can be identified on time. It is important to track the performance of a corporate learner in elearning in an LMS to able to make it better. Therefore, an LMS should be chosen which has the proper analytics tools. When the weaknesses of a learner are recognized, additional training solutions can also be provided apart from the personalized elearning course.

Accessible training courses
The LMS courses provide education at the convenience of the learner. Different employees have distinct training needs. They can only get trained when they have the time. For this, they have to create schedules and have target based goals. So, they need to access training resources whenever they want.

Gamification makes elearning interesting
The online training experience is pretty entertaining for the learners. Its because it consists of badges and points. Through games, corporate learners get the necessary initiative to use online learning tools. Games also give feedback to the corporate learner. For example, if he is unable to perform at a certain level, he knows that improvement is required. However, different kinds of games are needed for different kinds of learners.

Scalable designs
These days elearning designs are quite compatible with all the devices. So, you can use them on mobile phones, laptops and tablets. The LMS’s with which these courses are created, allow the users to view them on different devices. This is because the dimensions of the course are adjusted as per the device’s layout. Due to their flexibility with the layouts, they are easily accessible by all kinds of learners.

ELearning communities
There are elearning communities that are quite important for learners to exchange their views with each other. By cooperating, employees solve challenges of elearning tools. Since they can share their opinions on elearning communities, there is healthy interaction among all employees.

These are necessary attributes due to which elearning has become a popular learning tool.

elearning is a better technology than traditional learning

Elearning provides a better learning environment

There has been a revolution in digital training. Elearning has been getting popular in the corporate sector. The companies are continuously using it.

Elearning has also become so famous because mobile phones have become popular since the early 2000s.

There was a change in the uses of mobile phones during that time. Mobile phones were no longer used to just make or take calls. They were used for video watching and reading ebooks.
Hence, there are many benefits of elearning:

  • New technologies in elearning
New technologies exist like augmented reality and virtual reality which can be used to make elearning more entertaining. The augmented reality is a simulation of a real-world environment where the objects that are a part of such a world are supported by information generated by computers. It uses the present environment and adds objects to it to create an artificial environment. Through augmented reality applications, consumers can be made to know about the changes in their life when they buy a product. Augmented reality scenarios can be viewed through mobile phone apps etc.
Virtual reality is when the user goes in a simulated computer-generated environment through the use of headsets for this purpose. Since virtual reality takes you to a different world, you can take users to simulated environments like the human body.
  •

  • One knowledge base
Employees can log in to the LMS to know how much information they have accessed. They can recall all the important points by logging into the account with any device.
  •

  • Simple tracking of progress
The trainer does not need to take tests on paper and then record the progress of a user on a paper. He can check the progress through tests of the reporting system and its analytics which include graphs. These analytics are a part of the LMS.
  •

  • Easy employee training
Employees are trained easily with this system. When a new product is developed, knowledge can easily be imparted about it through an elearning course.
  •

  • Elearning can resolve the problem of teacher scarcity
In the year 2019, the Economic Policy Institute shared a report in which it said that the paucity of teachers is large and getting worse. This has been the most strong issue which lies in front of policymakers.
There is the advantage of elearning in solving the scarcity of teachers. Universities have a ratio of 16 students for every teacher. But an elearning course developed by a single teacher can be used to teach a large number of students. This number can be in thousands and millions.
  •

  • No requirement of textbooks
There is no need for textbooks to be used in elearning. There is no requirement of expenditure on textbooks by students.Students take education loans to pay for textbooks which is eliminated by elearning. So, elearning proves to be cheaper for students. Moreover, student loans cause stress for students.
The textbooks need to be redesigned again and the cost of printing is huge once a textbook becomes useless. This is not the case with elearning where change can be made easily in a module.
  •

  • Lesser time used in elearning
Elearning is a lesser time-consuming alternative as compared to traditional learning. The time taken in elearning is 25-60% less than traditional learning. So, elearning is better for teachers and students who have to devote less time.

In the future, there will be further improvement in elearning whereby Elearning analytics will be combined with theory, hence including solid evidence with elearning theories. These analytics use algorithms on the usage of the module by the learners so that any changes in the performance of users can be reported. It’s a good tool for instructional designers who can easily make changes to the course using such data.

DSLR stands for Digital single-lens reflex camera. It has a digital imaging sensor. In this kind of camera, the captured image can be viewed in the viewfinder when the shutter button is pressed. Its shown through the main lens rather than through a secondary lens, so the user knows what has been captured.

He was a German psychologist who is known for discovering the forgetting curve. According to this curve, the biggest decline in memory happens within 20 minutes, and then 1 hour.
