Elearning has taken on the world in a big way. It’s used everywhere whether in schools or offices. Teachers are transferring knowledge to students through elearning systems.
You collect data with elearning through Bigdata. This data is collected for every user of the elearning system.

When is Big Data created?
Big data is created when a user browses through the course. This data includes information on the user’s performance, results and any other kind of data created is captured in the big data. This data can be seen in useful results in the form of LMS analytics.
When used carefully, the LMS analytics showing big data comparisons which can be used for learning several new things. This involves whether there are any areas in which the users are facing any difficulty.

Whether the elearning is successful in solving the learning needs of the organisation can be tracked using LMS analytics. In how much time, the user goes the course is also important and can be captured through Big Data and LMS analytics.

If the user is taking more than average time to browse through the course, it implies that it is difficult for him. So, the course can be worked upon. Hence to make a module simpler and make it target-oriented also, its important that the issues to be addressed first should be decided upon. Issues that can be addressed later can be built in the later modules. So, for course improvement, this has to be done.
    You can also get the feedback taken from the learners about the course through tasks inbuilt in it and then rectify it. This way, the learner won’t suffer from any lack of motivation with a tough module.

  • Change in the amount of data
  • The data acquired through Big Data will be increased in the future. Careful management is necessary because it’s scalable. Hence companies might need to hire vendors in the long run when the amount of big data increases. This is how elearning systems rely on Big Data to measure the performance levels of learners.

    How to have onboarding programs for remote employees?

    Today, in the times of Corona, employees are working remotely for the companies. However, these employees need to feel like they are a part of the company. For this, the company can adopt many elearning strategies.
    A good onboarding program increases employee satisfaction. They are able to give in real value to the company.

  • Make sure employees feel a part of the company
  • You can create a sense for employees like they are part of your organisation. For this, it’s important that there is a live introduction given through video conferencing to such employees. You can also provide a “buddy” to them through the company. This will be a colleague who will help them with work and rules and regulations of the company till the time they are able to do it themselves. You can also hold some online events where employees can also participate. There can also be elearning tutorials shared with them. This can help them cope up with work.

    Gamification is one of the most important components of elearning. It’s important because it provides learners with a sense of accomplishment which retains their interest in the course.
    There are two kinds of motivation due to which learners feel so excited when they play games in elearning.

    • Extrinsic motivation

    This kind of motivation as the name indicates is in the form of points you get for completing a quiz. Most of the eLearning quizzes don’t allow the learners to move ahead until they have answered the questions correctly. And when they give the right answers they get points for doing that. So, that’s how, they are motivated to complete a quiz correctly
    The quiz might also be attempted at the same time by their peers. Due to which it becomes important to check who gives the right answers first.

    • Intrinsic motivation

    Employees also want to check how much they have learnt from an eLearning course. It’s important to develop a certain sense of confidence.

    netiquettes in online learning

    Are netiquettes required in online learning?

    eLearning has become an important part of our lives now due to Corona pandemic. However, communicating in eLearning needs to be done properly. Netiquette is to be followed while discussing something or posting information online.

      • Never intrude the speaker: The most important rule is that since everyone else is talking through a webcam, you should allow the speaker to finish his sentence. Just like in normal offline conversations, it’s impolite to interrupt someone when they are talking.

     

      • Don’t chat between the lecture: Also, its rude to chat with someone else while the speaker is still delivering his line of thought. Imagine while you were talking and someone from the audience is talking to someone else.

     

      • Write proper sentences: If the students have a query, then they should make sure that they use proper grammar and spelling to represent it. If you are committing spelling mistakes in your post, then it indicates non-seriousness.

     

      • Use correct citation: You can also use proper citation while quoting someone.

     

      • Save your password: It’s important that you don’t let someone access your password. This can create problems when someone uses your password to send insulting messages to someone. Its always better to log out of the system when its use has finished.

     

      • Don’t abuse online: One should not also crack malicious jokes about someone on the internet.

     

      • Send short emails: It’s also important as adults make sure that you send short emails. This way, it will be easier to read them. Also, send emails to a single person rather than to the whole class if not required.

     

      • Don’t use capital letters: In the online world, the use of All Caps in a sentence is considered yelling. So, be cautious while typing and don’t “yell” at someone.

     

      • Make sure that you don’t reveal too much information: Giving out too much information about yourself can be dangerous. This can make someone access your personal information and use it for nefarious purposes. So, such online information can be used to harm you.

    2 Player Jeopardy Game in SL360 #209

    Hello Everyone,

    Created a Jeopardy game for this weeks eLearning heroes challenge #209.

    Just like any normal game—this game also has 2 modes:

    1. Single Player Mode: that allows a single player to accumulate the maximum $ amount by answering random questions correctly.
    2. Multi Player Mode: that allows two players to compete with each other and the player with maximum $ amount wins.

    Once the player selects the game mode, he will be asked to enter the player(s) name(s) and “Start the Game” button will appear (as shown above).

    Based on the mode selection, clicking “Start the Game” button will take the player to the next slide that contains Jeopardy board(s) with various $ amounts.

    On selecting any $ amount, a layer pops up with 6 categories, out of which only two (General Knowledge and Inventors and their Inventions) are functional in this sample game.

    Both the above categories are linked to their own separate question banks. Each question bank contain 30 questions which are being fetched randomly. These questions are storyline’s default multiple choice graded questions.

    In order to increase the difficulty level, added a 15 second timer to each question. The player has to answer within the stipulated time.

    In case of multi player mode, the players get a chance to select the $ amount and answer the questions turn by turn.

    If the player answers the question correctly, a thumbs up sign pops up and later a tick mark appears on top right of the selected $ amount else a thumbs down sign pops up and later a cross mark appears.

    NOTE: Everything in this sample game is developed in storyline itself using Shapes, Variables and Triggers, except the first page, it contains 2 web objects:

    • Jeopardy – Title animation
    • Progress bar.

    Instructional design basics- What, Why and How?

    E-learning has revolutionized the approach of learning which has made the process of learning easier. It has simplified and made the learning interesting at the same time. If you are new to eLearning, there is a huge bundle of knowledge that can be grabbed. The course creation and delivery has come a long way in the past decades. Now, the learning styles are blended by using all the possible avenues ranging from brick-mortar classrooms to the digital tutorials. The instructional design plays a crucial role in development of the course in eLearning.

    The instructional design is a systematic approach to develop the learning courses and design them accordingly. You can find enough information on the internet about theories, models and approaches towards eLearning. A newcomer has to figure out the useful information from this ocean of the information available.

    Starting from the basics of instructional designing, the first step is to make the course effective and engaging by keeping the learner’s perspective in the mind. Here are the basics of instructional design, which can help you to get an idea for developing an effective eLearning course; that can help your learner to understand the lesson clearly.

    • Analyze the audience:
      The instructional designing needs lots of studies and analysis before developing the course. Your primary focus should be the learner, who are going to learn the lesson. Try to understand the needs of the audience and figure out if the need satisfies the development of the course. There are many check-points in the audience analysis such as; if your audience/learner is tech savvy, what experience they holds, age-groups or so on. Knowing and understanding the background of your audience helps the instructional designer in developing the content that meets the expectation of learner.

     

    • Follow the basic structure while creating the module:
      Everyone can develop the eLearning course but the best course can be developed by designing the basic structure of the module. The module should not be designed only for the sake of educating the learner. To ensure that learning process goes smoothly, one should run systematically. It is always a best idea to start with a welcome note followed by instructions on navigation of the course. Don’t forget to mention the goals, objectives for the learners. Avoid complexity of the content as it can confuse the learner and they can quit the course in between. The interactivity add plus points in the course. Add games, assessments, quizzes as it will give a better experience to the learner. Add the instructions on how to go to next lesson and exit the module.

     

    • Gain recognition of the learner:
      To make sure that your module turns out to be successful, add all the interesting elements that will keep the learner engaged till the end. It is a great idea to start a lesson with a short introductory video narrating; what the learner will get from the course.
