The companies are working hard to ensure that the recruits are properly trained to do their jobs.
Hence, they work hard to provide the proper compliance training to employees.
Once you have the right kind of onboarding training given to such employees, they can be expected to take on challenging roles.
As per a research done by the Brandon Hall Group, companies that provide training to employees have higher retention rate. So the importance of onboarding can’t be ignored. Employees can only attain their performance goals once they have been trained. When they are not, they face difficulty in attaining goals, which acts as discouraging for them.
Importance of onboarding
They can be upskilled to perform jobs needing more experience than their current skill set. Every employee who has joined your organization has a different kind of skill set. Thus, everybody can’t be given the same kind of training, to increase their skills. It’s better that, the LMS is implemented which takes into account the skillsets of everyone and provides the requisite training material to them depending on their skill mapping done by the HR.
Moreover, when the skill sets of individual employees are considered, they feel respected to be included. The most important part is that no company should ignore that there should be practical application in its onboarding. Hence, during that time, employees just not only learn theoretical ideas but have precise knowledge about how to use them too. The employees must be aware of how to apply the company policies even when it’s not possible to do so, and this is only possible through practical awareness. So the companies must use simulations so that the employees become capable to use their skills.
Furthermore, employees do not gain anything from onboarding when their specific skills are not taken into account while preparing such training. Hence, if assignments are given to employees after they are hired to test certain specific skills, their scores can be quite useful in designing e-learning materials for them.
JIT resources can be created
The new employees have to be provided with enough resources too when it comes to recalling the material at work. Either they must be taking notes during onboarding or if they are not, JIT resources must be prepared which they can consult later. Rather than notes, demo videos can assist them when they have trouble running a machine. The business can ensure that its e-learning vendor has prepared the apt JIT resource keeping in mind the learning methodology of the employee, whether it’s text-based or visual. If an employee takes a pause, because he is facing technical problems at work, it means lost man-hours for a company. Instructor led training is also not possible when companies are hiring employees from all over the world who attend onboarding in different time zones.
Moreover, an LMS has automatic emails so that it informs managers when a recruit has failed an onboarding test.
When choosing an LMS for onboarding, it’s better to see whether you require blended training also because if you do, then the LMS has to be selected accordingly. You can also schedule live sessions for employees as per their ILT schedules. This can be only done when the course has been divided in terms of what has to be taught through elearning and ILT respectively. When an Onboarding training program has been uploaded on an LMS, it can be used for recruits for many years without incurring any extra charges. You also have a timetable ready for such programs and automatic emails such as calendar notifications are sent to recruits about tests and courses etc. You can also check whether they are logging in to the LMS to complete them.
The employees must be given proper motivation to attend on-the-job training. Employees should be stimulated through gamification to feel encouraged for attending such training. A leaderboard, that shows the individual scores of employees, makes them undertake training to get on top. When they would be given rewards for improved performance, they are more likely to pursue a course to attain the same.
An LMS is mandatory for onboarding training because employees don’t have time to attend the instructor-led training session. Also, on paper tests can’t be taken because checking them is time-consuming. Neither the recruits nor the managers have such time. Also, there can be discrepancies and biases in manual testing, which are not involved when a software tests and scores employees. Besides, an LMS can maintain records of tests that can’t be done by HR.
LMS helps learners grasp the information even if they are not in front of a PC and doing some household chores. It’s because an LMS is accessible on a smartphone also. It’s an excellent way to provide onboarding to employees who are working from home. The modern-day workforce is also highly competitive and can’t wait for any paper-based training to upskill themselves.
Hence, the companies must implement an LMS for providing the best onboarding training to employees.
